Bosco Reach Out and District Health Society, National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) Morigaon on December 07, 2016 prepared a special drive with an aim to make village ‘Chonoka’ under Jhargaon BPHC (under Mayong Development Block) a ‘Cataract Free Village’ and ‘Village with 100% Presbyopic correction Aid’ to by March 31, 2017. A preliminary survey was conducted by DPM, NPCB Morigaon and BRO found that the Chonoka village is consisted of 117 houses with approximate 1500 population. On December 11, 2016 screening camp was conducted at Chonoka village. Deputy Commissioner and Joint Director of Health Services of Morigaon were present in the camp. During the camp Dr. Heman Das, D C Morigaon interacted With the villagers. He asked them to raise their difficulties and assured them his support in making the project successful by declaring their village as ‘Free Cataract Village’. During the Camp 121 patients turned up and received the health services. There were 18 patients diagnosed with cataract and referred to Eye Care Unit Morigaon Civil Hospital for free cataract surgery.
